DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Two men in Waterloo were hospitalized after getting stuck in a flooded wooded area.
Friday just after 9 p.m., crews responded to a 911 call reporting two unconscious men were stuck in an off-road vehicle on the 4600 block of County Road 22.
The UTV was still running and once on the scene medics suspected they were suffering from hypothermia and carbon monoxide poisoning. Police said that alcohol is suspected a factor in the crash.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department released the following:
On Friday March 25, 2022 around 2109hrs DeKalb County units along with the Waterloo Marshall’s Department, Waterloo Fire Department, and Parkview EMS all responded to the area of the 4600 Block of CR 22 in Waterloo on the report of a vehicle stuck in a flooded wooded area nearly a mile off the roadway with two patients unconscious.
The caller advised the two subjects were off-roading in the area and became stuck. The caller advised he was alerted by the two shortly prior to calling 911 they were stuck and needed pulled out. Upon the caller’s arrival, he found the driver, 28 year old, Glenn Crawford, and passenger, 29 year old, Eyon Reas both of Waterloo, unconscious in the vehicle possibly suffering from suspected Carbon Monoxide poisoning and sever Hypothermia, as the vehicle was halfway submerged in water and still running.
Several local good Samaritans offered their UTV’s to first responders to assist getting the subjects out of L the woods and back to the roadway to be tended to by medics due to the flooded and wooded terrain making it impossible for emergency vehicles to gain access to the vehicle. The two were conscious upon transport from the vehicle and transported to PRMC for medical treatment. Alcohol was believed to also be a factor. The incident remains under investigation.
