FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Fire Department crews were able to get control of a fire at a Mahoney Foundry factory Wednesday night in about an hour. Crews were called a little after 8:00 p.m. to 642 Growth Avenue for what was described as a “gas-fed fire” in the ceiling over one of the furnaces in the aluminum factory close to downtown Fort Wayne.
The FWFD said that due to molten metal in the factory, firefighters could not use water to put out the flames and had to use only fire extinguishers.
There were no injuries reported.
The fire left the factory with minor smoke, fire and water damage.

City firefighters responded to Mahony Foundry located at 642 Growth Avenue. Firefighters arrived and found a gas fed fire in the ceiling over one of the furnaces. Due to the molten metal, firefighters could not use water on the fire. The fire was contained to a small area with fire extinguishers. Firefighters worked with representatives of the business to fully extinguish the smoldering areas of fire. It took firefighters approximately one hour to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported during the incident. The building was in normal operation at the time of the fire and all employee’s self-evacuated with no injuries reported. Firefighters remain at the scene to ensure that the fire is completely extinguished and that no further issues remain.
