UPDATE (August 21, 2024):
The Fort Wayne Police Department says that bones found in a vacant Summit Street home are not human.
The discovery was made by workers doing foundation work on Monday. After testing the remains it was determined that they did not belong to a person and the case has been closed.
The FWPD released the following:
After an extensive investigation conducted by the Fort Wayne Police Department into the bones located in a vacant residence in the 1400 block of Summit Street, it was determined the bones were not that of human remains. The FWPD was assisted in this determination by the Allen County Coroners Office, Crime Scene Management personnel, trained police cadaver dogs, and an anthropologist. The investigation has been closed at this time.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating after workers found possible human remains at a vacant house just east of downtown Monday morning.
The FWPD says that construction workers were shoring up the foundation of the structure on the 1400 block of Summit Street when they found what are believed to be human remains.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office arrived at the scene a little after 10 a.m.
The FWPD says it remains under investigation.

On August 19th, 2024, at 1012 hours, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a vacant residence in the 1400 block of Summit Street. The residence was under construction and while the contractors were shoring up the foundation, they located what was believed to be human remains.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office arrived on scene to inspect the bones. The incident is currently under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroners Office and the Allen County Prosecutors Office.
