FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department says that three pets died in an apartment fire close to downtown Thursday afternoon.
Crews were called to the 1425 block of Swinney Avenue just after 4 p.m.
Once on the scene, they saw that the fire was venting out of the second floor of the duplex. One person made it out of the apartment. Fire officials say that the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
FWFD officials released the following:
Fort Wayne Communications received a 911 call from an occupant reporting his apartment was on fire. Fort Wayne Fire was dispatched and the first Engine to arrive was told by the caller that no persons were still in the structure. The Engine crew entered the duplex and extinguished a second floor apartment fire that was venting from the front windows. A search of the building confirmed no victims; however , three pets perished in the fire. No other injuries occurred at this incident and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
