FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana State Police say a former school resource officer in Fort Wayne is looking at charges after prosecutors say he had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl. The U.S. Marshals arrested Sergeant Andrew Beck last night in California, he’s there on military duty.
According to a press release from ISP, a joint investigation conducted by detectives from the Indiana State Police and the Allen County Police Department has resulted in criminal charges being filed by the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office against Fort Wayne Police Officer Andrew Beck.
This joint investigation began back in April of this year after a report was made to a Wayne High School Resource Officer, alleging that Officer Beck had been engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student. At that time, Beck was also working at Wayne High School as a part-time School Resource Officer. The investigation that followed this initial allegation, did in fact reveal that Beck was engaging in inappropriate conduct of a sexual nature via social media account activity with a 16 year old female Wayne High School student.
The completed investigation was turned over to the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office for review and determination of charges to be filed in this matter. Subsequent to that review, an arrest warrant was issued for Andrew Beck on charges of Child Seduction, Providing obscene matter and performances before minors, and Possession of child pornography.
Officer Beck is currently out of state on military orders, but with the assistance of the US Marshals Service, Beck was taken into custody earlier this evening and is being held at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, California where he will be held until being extradited back to Indiana.
The identification of the juvenile victim was withheld from release.
FWPD Chief of Police Steve Reed issued the following written statement:
“As Chief of the Fort Wayne Police Department I am shocked and disturbed over these allegations and I want to ensure the community that this behavior will never be tolerated within this agency.
When I was notified by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office that there may be a criminal matter involving one of my employees I moved to be as forthcoming with any information that we had to assist in the matter. The Allen County Sheriff and the Indiana State Police have handled this investigation and have arrested the offender.
At this point I will be requesting to move Beck to an unpaid status and will seek termination after it is adjudicated. Our department will continue its efforts make Fort Wayne a safe community and will never stop moving in a positive direction toward that goal.”
