Deadly hotel shooting blamed on Facebook post

UPDATE (January 21, 2021): Prosecutors say a Facebook post led to a murder in Fort Wayne.

Court documents say Joseph Rose shot and killed 22-year-old Myquel Middlebrook in a room at the Hawthorn Suites long-stay hotel on Tuesday because of something posted online.

Although, no one is saying just what that post said. Fort Wayne Police arrested Rose shortly after the shooting, and he’s currently being held in the Allen County Jail.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office identified the victim on Wednesday. The following was released to the media:

“The autopsy has been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin for the male victim that was found at Hawthorn Suites, 4900 block of Lima Road, in Fort Wayne, on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at approximately 08:41 hours. The deceased has been positively identified as Myquel Lmann Middlebrook, a male, black, 22 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Cause of Death has been determined to be Gunshot Wound of Chest and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Myquel Lmann Middlebrook is the 2nd Homicide in Allen County for 2021. The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.”

FWPD officials say an arrest has been made in a Tuesday morning hotel shooting.

Fort Wayne police released the following:

“After receiving multiple tips all day Fort Wayne Homicide Detectives were able to use this information in obtaining the location for the suspect from the early morning homicide at the Hawthorne Suites.
The Fort Wayne Police Emergency Services Team was called in to assist taking the suspect into custody. At just after 6:46 pm tonight Emergency Services Team members took Mr. Rose into custody without incident in the 5700 Block of Falls Drive.
Mr. Rose was transported to Police Headquarters for questioning and upon completion of that questioning is being taken to Allen County Lock-up on a preliminary charge of Murder. The investigation is ongoing and may result in additional charges being filed.
Detectives would like to thank all the citizens that called in with information regarding Mr. Rose’s location throughout the day following the incident this morning.”

Brown and Hazel.

Hair is shorter than in this picture.

He is to be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone seeing Rose is asked to call 911.

He has distinguishing tattoos on his face. Swastikas below his left eye and lightning bolts below his right eye. He also has tattooed horns on his forehead.



FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Officials with the Fort Wayne Police Department say that a man is dead following a shooting Tuesday morning at a local hotel off Lima Road.

They didn’t release many details but are asking for the public’s help in obtaining information in the case.

FWPD officials released the following:

“Fort Wayne Police Officers were dispatched to 4919 Lima Rd, Hawthorne Suites Hotel at 8:41am for a shooting that just occurred. Upon arrival they found a male adult suffering from a gunshot wound (s). He was pronounced deceased on the scene by medics.
Police believe there to have been some sort of disturbance in the room just prior to the shooting. At this time Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Units are on scene and working this active investigation.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office will be responsible for releasing the name of the decedent after notification of next of kin.
