Motorcyclist killed in Winchester Road crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say one man is dead after an overnight crash on Winchester Road. Officials say around 3:00 a.m., the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in the 5600 block and located an adult male (single rider of a motorcycle) down in the roadway. Officers began performing CPR until paramedics took over, who determined the male to be in critical condition. The male was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

Initial information indicates the male was riding the motorcycle southbound on Winchester Rd. when something caused him to leave the roadway. The motorcycle struck a mailbox and a tree, where the motorcycle finally crashed. The male was not wearing a helmet.

For hours, crash investigators took measurements and collected evidence, trying to piece together what caused the male to leave the roadway. It is currently unknown if speed or alcohol were factors.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office when appropriate to do so.

5600 Winchester Rd. remained closed for the duration of this investigation.
