One man killed, several hurt in Grant Co. crash

GRANT CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Friday, at 8.02 p.m. the Grant County Sheriff’s Department Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a vehicle crash, type unknown, at the intersection of C.R. 350 North and C.R. 400 East.
Upon deputies arrival at the scene, they observed that two vehicles were involved in the crash, one car was sitting in a soybean field in the southeast corner of the intersection and a truck, on its top, was south of the intersection in a pasture.
The car was occupied by two individuals and the truck was occupied by four individuals. Deputies, members from Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Marion General Hospital Ambulance service began to triage the victims from the crash. It was determined that at least one person, Emily Hillsamer date of birth 4-15- 2001, from truck would need to be flown to Ft. Wayne Lutheran Hospital, she was transported to Marion General Hospital to be flown out.

Medical personal on scene determined that the driver of the car was deceased, identification on the subject advised he was William L. Sparks, date of birth 6-22-1964, last known address was in Warren, Indiana. Mr. Sparks had to be extricated from the vehicle.
At that time, Crash Investigation Team #2 was called out to investigate.
The driver of the truck was Jessica Edwards, date of birth 1-31-88, and the front seat passenger of the car Lisa Reece, date of birth 7 25-1967, was also transported to Marion General Hospital for treatment. Two individuals from the truck refused treatment at the scene.

The preliminary crash investigation showed that the truck was southbound on C.R. 400 East approaching the stop sign at the intersection of C.R. 350 North, the car was eastbound on C.R. 350 North approaching the intersection of C.R. 400 East. The truck then failed to yield the right of way to the car, and then struck the car on the driver’s side door. The car came to a rest in the soybean field at the southeast corner of the intersection approximately 84’ from impact. The truck came to a rest on its top South of the intersection, along C.R. 400 East, in a pasture approximately 162’ from impact.
The crash is still under investigation and toxicology is pending.

While at the scene Deputies were advised that Lisa Reece, front seat passenger of the car, condition has declined and that she would also be flown out to Ft. Wayne Lutheran Hospital.
At this time both individuals medical condition that were flown to Ft. Wayne Lutheran Hospital is unknown.

The crash is being investigated by the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, the Grant County Corners Office, and the Indiana State Police. The Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Marion General Hospital Ambulance service and Grant County E.M.A. assisted with the investigation.
