Woman critically injured in motorcycle crash, alcohol suspected factor

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say a woman is in critical condition following a motorcycle crash early Tuesday morning.
Around 2:07am, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a single-vehicle motorcycle crash at the intersection of W. Main St. and Leesburg Rd. Officers arrived and found an adult female in the grassy area appearing to be unconscious. Officers rendered aid until relieved by paramedics, who determined the female to be in serious condition. Upon being transported to a local hospital, the female was downgraded to life-threatening condition.

Police say it appears the female was the passenger on a motorcycle driven by an adult male. The adult male was driving eastbound on W. Main St. and tried to make a northbound turn onto Leesburg Rd. when, for an unknown reason, he lost control and struck the curb on the east side of the roadway, crashing the motorcycle. The adult male suffered minor injuries.

The male was taken to the police station where he will be interviewed by investigators, who will determine if any charges are appropriate.

Alcohol does appear to be a factor in this investigation. Neither rider was wearing a helmet.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police.
