INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Indiana State Department of Health is monitoring a potentially deadly fungus called Candida Auris.
The department says the fungus is a global health threat and is resistant to many anti-fungal drugs.
It can cause infections in people’s bloodstream, ears, the urinary tract, and in wounds.
It mainly infects people who are hospitalized or are in long-term care facilities. It has a death rate between 30 and 60 percent.
Current data shows 87 cases in Indiana.
