LAKE CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – A River Grove, Illinois man was airlifted from I-65 when his van rolled over entrapping him.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Zachary Huston revealed at approximately 5:10 p.m. Monday, June 10th, 2019, evening, a 2007 Chevrolet cargo van was southbound on I-65 at the 234.6 mile marker (this is approximately 4 ½ miles north of the Demotte exit) in the left lane when the driver’s rear tire blew out. This caused the driver, Zdzislaw Wrobel, 69 of River Grove, Illinois, to lose control of the van, going off the roadway to the right where it hit the guardrail and then rolled over.
Wrobel, who was wearing his seat belt was entrapped and had to be extricated. During the rollover, Wrobel sustained an arm injury. Both lanes of I-65 southbound were closed for approximately an hour for an air ambulance to land and take Wrobel to a Chicago hospital for treatment. The right lane is closed for removal of the van and clean-up of the crash scene.
