Service dog’s body found after crash


GARY, Ind. (ADAMS) – The remains of a service dog are found after the terrier was believed to have run away from a crash. Indiana State Police initially thought the dog ran from the scene of a two-vehicle rollover crash on I-80/94 east bound at the 8.6 mile marker (Grant Street) in Gary.

They now believe the small animal was fatally injured during that incident.

Police offered their condolences to the family of the dog, who was trained to help the hearing-impaired.Indiana State Police released the following statement Thursday.

“It is with great sadness that I must report that this [Thursday] afternoon, INDOT workers located what is believed to be the remains of “Jack”, the service dog that was reported missing this morning. It is believed that he sustained fatal injuries at the time of the original crash. Our condolences go out to the family. We appreciate the many phone calls we received from concerned citizens that offered to help locate Jack.”
