Dangerous temperatures force changes for FW Ball Drop

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Frigid temperatures predicted for New Year’s Eve have forced the organizers of the Fort Wayne Ball Drop to change their plans for outdoor entertainment. Wind chill temperatures are expected to be as low at 15 degrees below zero, which could be very dangerous to anyone outside for an extended period of time.

NewsChannel 15, WANE-TV, a sponsor on the event, says the ball will still light up at 8 p.m. and drop at midnight but activities like outdoor entertainment will now be moved inside to an inside gala that is not open to the public.

People are encouraged to come and watch the ball drop and the following fireworks from the comfort (and warmth) of their cars.
The parking lots in front of Parkview Field near the corner of Ewing and Brackenridge Streets will now be open to the public to park and take in the festivities.
