SHIPSHEWANA, Ind. (ADAMS) – The 10th Annual Shipshewana Ice Festival kicks off Thursday, December 28th. Ice Carvers will be drilling and shaving blocks of ice all over Shipshewana. According to the festival website, creations they design are submitted by the sponsor or are the carver’s choice. These professional carvers enjoy the challenge of creating.
On Friday, December 29th ice carvers will compete in the Wolfe Building parking lot at 345 Morton St. The carvers will create their own design or sculpture out of special larger pieces of ice. There will be cash awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded upon completion. Patrons are encouraged to bring cameras and video to capture the master carvers at work.
At 10 a.m., the 9th annual Chili Cook-Off wil be held in the Wolfe Building, 345 Morton St. It is open to anyone. An there is no charge to compete. The Cook-off runs from 10am-3pm. Winners will receive trophies, cash awards, gifts and bragging rights.

Admission: $5.00 or the 2017 Shipshewana Ice Festival Pin will get you free entrance into the Chili Cook-off. The pin will be available at many stores in Shipshewana for $15. You can purchase the pin at the chili tent the day of the event. Festival organizers say the Ice Festival Pin is worth approximately $100 in value during the month of January.
