Cat and dog killed in overnight house fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Fire Department officials say two people are okay but sadly lost two family pets in a house fire overnight. It started around 12:20 Tuesday morning at 821 Beaver Avenue.
FWFD officials say that crews arrived on the scene to find a two-story home with the first and second floors fully involved in fire.

The homeowner and daughter had self-evacuated prior to FWFD’s arrival. They reported that there were pets that were still inside the home. Multiple hose lines were used to extinguish the fire and protect surrounding structures in close proximity to the home.

One cat was rescued. Sadly, a dog and cat perished. Another cat was unaccounted for and possibly escaped.
The damage throughout the home required an extensive overhaul and locating and extinguishing hidden fire in the walls. It took over a half-hour to gain control of the blaze.

Investigators were on scene and say the cause undetermined at this time. TRAA, NIPSCO, AEP, Neighborhood Code Enforcement, and FWPD assisted on scene.
