Eight-year-old killed in DeKalb County crash

DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – An eight-year-old is dead after a crash yesterday afternoon at SR 1 and County Road 40 in DeKalb County.

Police say a Ford Explorer didn’t yield to a large truck and was hit in the intersection. This caused both vehicles to go down an embankment.

The Ford rolled over several times trapping three children inside. The driver was able to get out.

Crews extracted all three children from the vehicle. One child was flown by Samaritan to the hospital. A second child was taken to the hospital by EMS. Police say that life-saving measures were performed on the third child but the eight-year-old died at the scene.

He has been identified as Bradford Bego of McCordsville, Ind. All three children were properly secured in the vehicle with seatbelts or child restraints, according to police.
The driver in the truck suffered only minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department.
