Man extricated from truck after it crashes into semi in Steuben Co.

STEUBEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – On 06/10/2019 at approximately 06:06 PM Deputies from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office along with Fremont and Angola Police Departments responded to the area of 6485 E US HWY 20 in reference to a personal injury accident. Throughout the course of the initial crash investigation, it was found that a black 1998 Ford Ranger, driven by 35-year-old Franklin Figgins from Edon, OH, was traveling eastbound US HWY 20 when Figgins attempted to pass a northbound turning vehicle on the right.

Figgins left the south side of US HWY 20 and lost control of his vehicle. Figgins then went across the center line in front of a westbound traveling 1995 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer driven by 70-year-old Larry Mills from Columbiana, OH causing the vehicles to collide. Figgins was flown to a Fort Wayne, Indiana area hospital by the Samaritan Helicopter in serious but stable condition after being extricated from his vehicle. The accident is still under investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the accident.
