Man suffers burns during Milton Street house fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) ā€“ FWFD officials say a man is recovering after being burned in a house fire Saturday night.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the home at 1119 Milton Street just after 7 p.m.

FWFD officials said in a release that they saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the first floor of a two-story home that traveled up to the attic when they arrived.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department released the following regarding the fire:

“FWFD units dispatched for a possible mattress on fire inside a home. Crews arrived on scene finding heavy fire and smoke coming from first floor of a two-story home. All occupants had escaped on their own with one adult male receiving burns to both hands. Burn victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment by TRAA. Crews extinguished the blaze and had extensive overhaul looking for and extinguishing fire that had extended into a 2nd floor attic area. Fire looked to be accidental and possibly started on a mattress inside the home. Investigators were still investigating the cause and origin of the fire. TRAA, FWPD, AEP, NIPSCO, and Neighborhood Code Enforcement all assisted on scene.”
