Non-compliant sex offender arrested in Mercer County

CELINA, Ohio – The Sheriff’s Office in Mercer County says it is investigating an out-of-compliance sex offender. On January 28, 2020, officials were made aware that a sex offender may not be staying where he was reporting to be living.

Shawn Steven Perry, 49 years of age, had reported to the Sheriff’s Office that he was “homeless” on December 10, 2019.

Due to the reporting of “homeless”, Mr. Perry was required to contact Central Dispatch each evening to report where he was going to be staying that night. Mr. Perry continued to do this until January 27th.
On January 28, 2020, the Sheriff’s Office attempted to contact Mr. Perry at the last address he had reported. The residents of that address advised that they hadn’t seen Mr. Perry in several months.
An arrest warrant was obtained by the Sheriff’s Office for the arrest of Mr. Perry on a charge of Falsification. Mr. Perry was located and taken into custody. During the course of the investigation, it was found that Mr. Perry had called in to report where he was staying 46 times. 39 of those times he lied about where he was staying.

Mr. Perry may face additional charges after review by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
