COLUMBUS, Ohio (ADAMS) – Students in Ohio’s largest school district are starting the new school year despite a teachers’ strike.
Columbus City Schools students are kicking off the year today with online learning as striking teachers are demanding more pay, better working conditions, and smaller class sizes.
The city’s mayor has asked the teachers’ union and the school board to return to negotiations, noting many students have already missed out on school experiences while being out of classrooms during the COVID-19 outbreak.
As the situation plays out in Ohio, in Philadelphia – the school district’s maintenance, custodial and transportation employees voted over the weekend to authorize a strike just ahead of the start of school, with their contract expiring on August 31st.
