FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – FWPD officials say that a “serious violent offender” is behind bars after a traffic stop on Monday.
Officers made the stop around 3:40 a.m., near Coliseum Boulevard and Harris Road. Officers said a Dodge Durango was driving on Coliseum without its headlights.
According to police, a passenger, identified as Macquille Woodard III, fled the scene. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend him and recover a handgun, as well as a magazine.
FWPD officials released the following:
On 11/20/21 at 0339 Hrs, Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department were in the area of Coliseum Blvd and Harris Rd, investigating a dispatched call in regards to a man with a gun. On checking the area, Officers observed a Dodge Durango traveling on Coliseum Blvd without headlights on. Officers then conducted a traffic stop on the Durango in the area of Coliseum Blvd and Sherman Blvd.
During the course of the traffic stop a passenger from the vehicle, identified as MACQUILLE WOODARD III, fled the scene. After a short foot pursuit, Officers were able to apprehend WOODARD. Officers were able to locate a holster for a handgun as well as a magazine for a handgun on WOODARDS person. A short distance away, Officers located a Taurus 9mm handgun. During the course of the investigation WOODARD was confirmed to be a serious violent felon, enhancing the handgun charge.
