DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Police in DeKalb County say that a deer in the roadway was to blame for a crash early Monday morning that injured the driver. Police say that the 19-year-old was able to get out of his car after it rolled over when he was attempting to swerve to not hit the animal.
According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, Colin A. Gary, of Edgerton, Ohio was heading west in the 7000 block of CR 40 in Butler just after 4:45 a.m.
That’s when he told officers that he swerved to avoid hitting a deer in the road. As a result, his 2018 Ford Fusion went off the road and hit a large tree before rolling over.
Police say the car came to a rest in the middle of the road and Gary was able to get out.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment of neck and back pain. The Ford is listed as a total loss.
