The lights are slowly coming back on in Kentucky from the state’s worst tornado outbreak. More than 17-thousand homes and businesses remain in the dark at this hour, down from 26,000. But in places like hard-hit Mayfield, power won’t be restored until after the holidays. This comes as searchers continue digging through rubble for 109 people still missing. The death toll stands at 74, including 12 children, the youngest just two months old.
While a bill to keep the nation from going into default is now on President Biden’s desk. He’s expected to sign it in just hours, barely beating today’s deadline. The Senate was first to vote yesterday to increase the debt limit. The House then did the same last night. This allows the government to keep paying its bills into 2023. Democrats are now hoping to pass the President’s social spending bill by next week.
