DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Police in DeKalb County say that a woman and her kids were hurt when a truck hit their disabled vehicle on Sunday night.
According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, Michael A. McCord, 57, of Tupelo, Mississippi, was driving a 2020 Freightliner northbound on I-69 around 8:47 p.m. around the 338mm when he reportedly did not see and struck the 2003 Monte Carlo that was disabled and parked on the east shoulder of the Interstate.
Amanda stated the vehicle had died and had no sort of hazard lights working.
Amanda Fisher, 39 of Ashley, Indiana, was in front of the vehicle looking at the engine, while her two kids were sitting in the back seat with no seatbelts on.
When the truck struck the car, it pushed it forward into Amanda. Her kids were tossed around in the rear of the vehicle.
According to officers, the truck swerved after striking the car causing it to run off the roadway, down a ditch, through a fence, and strike a tree with the front bumper area.
Amanda and her kids were picked up by a person on their way to assist in fixing the vehicle they knew prior to law enforcement’s arrival and driven to Cameron Hospital in Angola.
Amanda’s daughter was having trouble breathing at the time.
The semi-truck driver was unaware that any pedestrians were present at the time of impact. He was not injured.
