FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – There’s great news for pet owners in Fort Wayne. Humane Fort Wayne recently announced that the Fort Wayne Pet Food Pantry is joining the Humane Fort Wayne family.
Since its inception in 2010, the Fort Wayne Pet Food Pantry has been providing no-cost pet food to neighbors in need in our community. In doing so, the organization has helped keep pets in loving homes while reducing shelter intakes and euthanasia.
Our mission statement speaks to our desire to ensure that most everyone, regardless of their financial lot in life, deserves the unconditional love of a pet. Through this partnership, the new Humane Fort Wayne Pet Food Pantry will not only be able to carry on the incredible work it’s been doing for over a decade but expand services even further to help pet owners in need,” says Jessica Henry, Executive Director of Humane Fort Wayne. “I am grateful to the Pet Food Pantry’s founder, Pam Tracey, and their many dedicated board members throughout the years. Thanks to them, the Pet Food Pantry is strong, and I’m excited for the future of our organization because of it.
The volunteer Executive Director of Fort Wayne Pet Food Pantry, Rochele Watson, is already an employee of Humane Fort Wayne. She will continue in her role as the program’s administrator and will oversee the operations, programs and services that the community has come to rely upon from its primary location at 2502 Church Street in Fort Wayne. The organization plans to expand these operations and reach in the near future.
“We are delighted to have been given this opportunity to secure the mission and expand the outreach of the Fort Wayne Pet Food Pantry. It is an honor to join together with an organization that shares our passion for keeping pets at home with their families,” says Valerie McEowen, Board Chair for Fort Wayne Pet Food Pantry.
The organizational transition is expected to be complete in the coming months.
This new announcement comes almost exactly one year after HOPE for Animals and the Allen County SPCA merged to become Humane Fort Wayne in January of 2021. All of Humane Fort Wayne’s programs strive to improve the lives of pets and the people who love them. The no-kill shelter is 100% donor-funded and offers a comprehensive adoption program, education and outreach programs, pet retention and pet surrender programs, and community and working cat programs. The clinic offers low-cost spay and neuter surgeries, a wellness clinic, and a community cat program.
