FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Firefighters in Fort Wayne say a man was able to make it out of their house before smoke and flames did too much damage.
Fire crews were able to quickly put out the fire at the house just south of downtown yesterday evening on Home Avenue.
The man was the only person home at the time.
There’s no word what caused the fire that broke out around 7 p.m.
FWFD officials released the following:
Firefighters responded to an early evening house fire. First units arrived to find smoke coming from the second floor windows of the home. The home was occupied at the time of the fire, the individual was able to self evacuate without injuries. Firefighters entered the structure to extinguish the fire and search for additional victims, but found none. The fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated. Firefighters were assisted by FWPD, TRAA, NCE, AEP and NIPSCO.
