FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department says the official cause of a fire over the weekend at the Waterloo Garden apartments is still under investigation.
FWFD responded to the 5800 block of Bunt Drive, close to Paulding, just before 10 p.m. Saturday night. Upon arrival, they found flames shooting through the roof of an apartment.
According to FWFD, crews worked to get the adjoining apartments evacuated and stop the spread of the fire to the other apartments.
Officials say the fire caused the apartment’s roof to partially collapse. No injuries were reported. One apartment suffered heavy fire, water, and smoke damage. It took fire crews just over 20 minutes to get the fire under control.

FWFD units responded to multiple calls concerning a structure fire at Waterloo Apartments on Bunt Drive. First arriving firefighters found flames through the roof and one apartment fully engulfed in fire. Firefighters worked quickly to attack the fire and also make sure that adjoining units were evacuated. There was a partial roof collapse in the apartment of origin and fire spread in the attic. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and keep it from spreading to occupied units. No injuries were reported and Red Cross was called to assist one occupant in an adjoining unit. FWFD was assisted by FWPD, NCE, AEP and TRAA.
