FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – FWPD officials say a woman who was found on January 7 in “life-threatening condition” in a southwest apartment was stabbed.
Just before 8:15 a.m., officers responded to the Preston Pointe at Inverness complex off Illinois Road, close to I-69.
Police initially did not know what happened to the woman and asked for the public’s help.
It is unclear what led to the break in the case but officials say that a man has been arrested. Chad Kaluza, 47, was found in Carmel, Indiana, and taken into custody for Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery, Domestic Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Domestic Battery resulting in SBI, and Strangulation.
The current condition of the victim is unknown.
FWPD officials released the following:
On 01/07/2023 at approximately 8:14 am, officers with the FWPD responded to 7900 Winston Ln. regarding an unknown problem. Upon arrival, they located a victim suffering from a stab wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital with a life threatening injury. Homicide detectives filed an arrest warrant for Chad Kaluza on 01/11/2023. Kaluza was located in Carmel Indiana on 01/12/2023 at approximately 6 pm and arrested with help from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and the Carmel Police Department.

Just after police found the woman, the FWPD officials released the following:
On January 7, 2023, at 8:13am, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to an unknown problem in an apartment in the 7900 block of Winston Ln. Officers arrived and found an adult female in life-threatening condition. She was transported to a local hospital and remains in such condition.
Detectives and medical staff are currently trying to determine what exactly happened to the female and if it is suspicious in nature. As per protocol, detectives were called to document and process the scene.
