FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police are investigating after a teenager was found shot dead Thursday afternoon.
The victim was shot around 4 p.m. in a neighborhood near McMillen Park.
Police say he was found with a gun next to him and police say the shooting happened during an argument with another person. Police have not said how old the boy was.
Fort Wayne Police Department officials released the following:
On Thursday February 23 rd 2023 at approximately 1600 hours Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department were dspatched to the 4500 block of McMillen Park Dr regarding a a shooting. A resident stated someone had possibly been shot in her yard. When officers arrived, they located a juve nile male in the yard suffering an apparent gunshot wound. TRAA medics pronounced him deceased on scene. Based on preliminary information it is believed that an altercation took place nearby that resulted in an exchange of gun fire. The victim then fled where he succumb to his injuries. A firearm was located from the scene where the juvenile was was located. This incident remains under investigation by the Cty of Fort Wayne Poice Department, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
