GRANT CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says that an Anderson man was killed when his vehicle was struck by a train Thursday afternoon.
Just after noon, the Grant County Central Dispatch responded to a call that a van and train collided at CR 600 and CR 100 West. When deputies arrived they found that the train was heading northbound when the vehicle crossed eastbound on County Road 600 North, causing the train to hit the van, pushing the van down the tracks.
The driver of the van was ejected alongside the tracks. Officers found him and began life-saving measures before putting him in a truck to get him to a waiting ambulance.
In a press release, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said that the 22-year-old man died later at the hospital.
The crash is still under investigation by the Grant County Fatality Crash Team.

Today (Thursday) at 12:03 hours, the Grant County Central Dispatch received a call that a van and train collided at the intersection of CR 600 and CR 100 West. The caller also stated that the vehicle and train were on fire north of the crossing.
Units from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to find the train was northbound, and a vehicle crossed eastbound on CR 600 North, causing the train to strike the vehicle, pushing the van down the tracks.
The van driver was ejected alongside the tracks and was located by Grant County Sheriff’s Deputies, who immediately began life-saving measures. The Grant County Emergency Management, Marion Health Medics, and Fire Units who transported the victim by four-wheel-drive truck to the crossing to an awaiting ambulance for transport. The driver of the van, a 22-year-old male from Anderson, IN, was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. This incident is currently under investigation by the Grant County Sheriff’s Fatality Crash Team. The driver of the van’s name is being withheld, awaiting his family’s notification. Sheriff Garcia wants to ask all drivers to proceed cautiously at all rail crossings. and remember that trains can take up to a mile to stop.
