GRANT CO., Ind (ADAMS) – The Grant County Sheriff’s Department says a child was struck by a vehicle while on the way to school Tuesday morning. It reportedly happened around 6 a.m. on W. 38th St. in Marion.
Police say the child was riding their bike to school when they were struck from behind. That vehicle then left the scene, according to police, “leaving the child alone with his injuries.”
The 15-year-old was airlifted to a hospital in Indianapolis where they were admitted and had surgery Tuesday and is now reportedly in stable condition.
Officers said they found a black GM car mirror with duct tape on it at the scene of the crash and put out word to the community to be on the lookout for that vehicle. By Wednesday morning, the Grant County Sheriff’s Department said they had made an arrest.
Police said that a concerned citizen came forward with information leading to the arrest of Jimmy E. Roll, 49, of Marion. He is now facing several charges.

Grant County Sheriff Deputies were able to locate a suspect and vehicle last evening related to the Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Bodily Injury yesterday involving a child on a bicycle based on a concerned citizen’s information. The accident in the 2700 West 38th Street (200 South) at 6:21 am.
Investigation led to the arrest of Jimmy E. Roll age 49 of Marion, Indiana on the charge of leaving the scene of accident-causing Injury 1C 9-26-1-1.1 (b) (2) Duties after an Accident; Failure to Stop after an Accident. Judge Michael Hotz of Marion City Court issued the warrant and bond is set at $20,000.00 cash.
Jimmy E Roll is currently in the custody of the Grant County Sheriff Office, and Investigators intend to seek additional charge for driving while being a Habitual Traffic Offender as his BMV Driver’s License had already been revoked for life.
