FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating an apparent “road rage” shooting that happened near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Maplecrest Road Sunday afternoon.
Officers responded to the scene at 12:05 p.m. after reports of a road rage incident and that somebody had been shot.
Witnesses told officers that the driver of one of the vehicles, a man, reportedly got out and hit the other man in a vehicle. Shots were fired after that with one of the drivers hit in his arm and another person not involved was also struck. Both people shot suffered non-critical injuries, according to FWPD.
One of the men was arrested and the other has pending battery charges.
The Fort Wayne Police Department released the following:
On Sunday November 19th 2023 at approximately 1205 hrs Officers were dispatched to the area of Lake and Maplecrest regarding a shooting. Dispatch received several calls regarding a road rage incident, and someone having been shot. Officers arrived to find an adult male suffering a gunshot wound to the arm. A second, uninvolved person was also found to have also been struck by gun fire.
From statements given at the scene by involved parties, the incident stemmed over road rage, between two vehicles. One driver, an adult male, exited his vehicle and approached the driver of the other vehicle, also an adult male, and battered him. That driver then discharged several rounds from a handgun at his assailant, striking him in the arm. Another, uninvolved party was also struck by gunfire. All persons involved suffered non-critical injuries.
The driver who discharged this firearm, was taken on charges of Criminal Recklessness with a deadly weapon for injuring the uninvolved party, and the other driver has pending battery charges. There is no further threat to public safety.
This incident remains under investigation with the Fort Wayne Police Department and Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
