FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana State Police say that seven people were hurt in a crash Saturday on US 27.
According to ISP, it happened at the intersection of US 27 and Horman Road.
Indiana State Police released the following:
On Saturday, November 18, 2023 at approximately 9:45pm, troopers from the Fort Wayne Post and officers from the Allen County Police Department responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of US27 and Horman Roads in southern Allen County. When officers arrived they found two heavily damaged passenger cars, with multiple fire and EMS first responders already attending to several crash victims.
Master Trooper Bryan Rumple’s preliminary investigation identified two passenger cars involved in the crash, and a total of seven occupants, all of which were injured in varying degree from minor to serious, but none life threatening.
Trooper Rumple’s report stated that a silver 2021 Honda Accord driven by William Jamison, 17, of Fort Wayne, was traveling eastbound on Horman Road and is alleged to have failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic at US Highway 27. As Jamison’s vehicle crossed the southbound lanes of US27, it was struck by a southbound black 2015 Dodge Charger driven by Jennifer Huser, 33, of Decatur, IN.
Jamison’s vehicle sustained heavy damage near the drivers door. Both Jamison and his 15 year old female passenger sustained injuries as a result of the crash. They were both transported from the scene by ambulance to a Fort Wayne area hospital for treatment.
Huser’s vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage. There were four passengers in her vehicle; a 34-year-old adult male, and three children ages 4, 12, and 15 years old. Huser and her four passengers were all transported by ambulance to a Fort Wayne area hospital for treatment.
All occupants in both vehicles (with one exception) were properly restrained, which likely reduced the overall severity of injuries. The four-year-old passenger in Huser’s vehicle was restrained in a child safety seat, however, it remains under investigation as to whether or not that safety seat itself was properly secured.
Although alcohol was not suspected as a contributing factor, both drivers cooperated with the chemical testing legally required of all drivers involved in serious bodily injury crashes. The results of those tests are pending and not available for release.
This remains an active investigation. There is no further information to release at this time.
Agencies assisting Trooper Rumple at the scene were the Allen County Police Department, Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, Southwest and Hoagland Fire & EMS personnel, and Parker’s wrecker service.
Although the cause of this crash was attributed to the unexpected failure of one driver to yield right of way to another, the Indiana State Police would kindly remind all drivers and their passengers as to the importance of being properly restrained for this very reason. For any seatbelt or child safety restraint system to effectively prevent or reduce injury, they must be worn (installed) properly.
