During Monday’s (December 11th) episode of Variety‘s Actors on Actors series, Jennifer Aniston revealed that she had been texting with Matthew Perry hours before he passed away unexpectedly. The Friends star died at the age of 54 in late October.
When she was asked how she wants the world to remember Perry, Aniston replied, “As he said he’d love to be remembered. He was happy. He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy — that’s all I know. I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy.”
Her costar on The Morning Show, Reese Witherspoon, added, “It’s important people know that.”
“It is,” the Murder Mystery actor said. “I want people to know he was really healthy, and getting healthy. He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard. He really was dealt a tough one. I miss him dearly. We all do. Boy, he made us laugh really hard.”
Also on Monday (December 11th), Perry’s 17 Again costar, Zac Efron, paid tribute to him while receiving a Hollywood Walk of Fame star. “Collaborating with him and director Burr Steers — it was so much fun and really did propel me and motivate me in so many ways,” Efron said, according to People. “It really pushed me into the next chapter of my career, and for that, thank you so much, Matthew. Thinking about you a lot today.”
