FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says officers arrested a woman on five felony child abuse charges.
36-year-old Elicia Hurmon is accused of abusing and neglecting three children who were under her care after their mother died in January 2023 and their father, in prison, sent the kids to live with her.
A four-month-old and two other children, 6 and 7, were allegedly beaten by Hurmon with her hand or a belt.
They also told police they slept on the floor as they did not have a bed.
The Fort Wayne Police Department released the following:
On March 16, 23, the Indiana Department of Child Services notified the Fort Wayne Police Department about child abuse which resulted in bodily injury to a young child. Detective Sergeant James Haupert adopted the case. He learned during his investigation that Elicia Nicole Hurmon was allegedly responsible for causing the injuries to the child. An arrest warrant was issued on April 16, 2024. She was arrested by the Allen County Warrants Division later that day. Detective Sergeant Haupert was also assisted by the Dr. Bill Lewis Center For Children.
Suspect Arrested #1: Elicia Nicole Hurmon, 36 years old
Preliminary Charges: Three (3) counts of Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Bodily Injury,
Level 5 Felonies.
Two (2) counts of Domestic Battery with Bodily Injury to a Person Under 14, Level 5 Felonies.
