The Cabot Theater in Beverly, Massachusetts has apologized after some attendees walked out of An Evening With Richard Dreyfuss + Jaws Screening over the weekend due to the actor’s sexist and homophobic comments. Dreyfuss’s remarks on Barbra Streisand, trans youth, and the Academy Awards’ inclusion rules were widely-criticized on social media, though no videos or transcripts have turned up yet.
“We walked out of his interview tonight along with hundred of others because of his racist homophobic mysogynistic rant,” one person wrote on the venue’s Facebook page. Another called Dreyfuss’ comments “disgusting” and “offensive.” The Cabot Theater issued a statement on Monday expressing regret over the incident, emphasizing that Dreyfuss’s views did not align with their values of inclusivity and respect.
