FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) -The Fort Wayne Police Department says that one person has life-threatening injuries following a crash that started as a police chase on Dawson’s Creek Boulevard. Just before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, FWPD says an officer attempted a traffic stop for reckless driving when the vehicle took off. Police followed the car onto Coldwater Road where it ran a light at Oakbrook Parkway.
That is when the vehicle crashed into a car turning onto Coldwater. The initial crash caused a secondary wreck. The driver of that vehicle was not hurt.
The suspect was taken to the hospital in serious condition and the male driver of the car that the suspect hit is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Police say that it remains under investigation.
The Fort Wayne Police Department released the following:One adult male is in life-threatening condition, and another is in serious condition after a traffic accident with injuries, following a police pursuit. A Fort Wayne Police Department officer attempted a traffic stop in the area of 10000 Dawsons Creek Blvd. around 8:52am for reckless driving. The vehicle fled from police, eventually traveling South on Coldwater Rd. running the traffic light at Oakbrook PKWY and crashing into an uninvolved motorist turning north onto Coldwater from Oakbrook around 8:59am. The impact of the collision caused a secondary crash with another vehicle stopped in traffic on Coldwater. The uninvolved motorist was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition. The suspect was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. There were no other injuries reported at the scene.
The FWPD Fatal Accident Crash Team made the scene and took over the investigation and completed the processing of the scene. Coldwater Rd is now back open. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
