FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – An early morning standoff sent specialized FWPD units to a home on Webster Street.
It started when a call came in just before 3 a.m. on Sunday that a man was making threats with a sword in a home. When officers arrived he refused to exit the residence.
Officers attempted to get him to come out but after those efforts were exhausted the Emergency Service Team, Crisis Response Team, and Air Support Unit page were sent to the scene. The man came outside around 5 a.m.
He was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
The situation is still under investigation at this time.
The FWPS released the following:
At approximately 2:50am, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 5200 block of Webster Street in reference to a domestic disturbance where a male suspect was threatening residents inside the home with swo rds.
When Officers arrived on scene, the male suspect refused to leave the home. After more information was obtained, Officers had reason to believe that this incident was now a hostage situation; where one member of the household wa s still inside with the suspect. Multiple attempts were made to compel the subject to come out voluntarily but were were refused.
An Emergency Service Team, Crisis Response Team, and Air Support Unit page was sent. After EST ’s arrival, the subject came out voluntarily . No injuries were reported on scene, butthe suspect was transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Poice Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
