UPDATE (October 8, 2021):
Officials have released the identity of a woman found dead last week close to a West Coliseum hotel.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office says that 49-year-old Peggy Chambers was the woman found in a ditch off the 1000 block of Coliseum close to the Regency Inn.
Right now, the coroner says that further tests are required to figure out exactly why and how she died but said that foul play is not suspected.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:
The autopsy has been completed and the next of kin has been notified in the death of Peggy Laverne Chambers, female white 49 years of age, from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Peggy Laverne Chambers was located in the ditch along the north side of the 1000 block of Coliseum Boulevard, at about 1100 hours on November 3, 2021.
The Cause and Manners of Death are pending further testing and foul play is not suspected in the death.
This remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say right now they don’t know what caused a woman’s death before she was found close to a local hotel yesterday afternoon.
Police said that they had launched a death investigation after the discovery of her body in a ditch off of the 1000 block of Coliseum Boulevard next to the Regency Inn.
Right now, police say there were no obvious signs of a crime or a vehicle accident.
FWPD officials released the following:
On November 3rd, 2021 Fort Wayne Police Officers responded to a call of a person down, just before 11 am at the 1000 block of W. Coliseum Blvd. by the Regency Inn. Upon arrival Officers were flagged down by a citizen who came across an unconscious adult female who was found in an embankment by the roadway. Medics and the Fort Wayne Fire Department made the scene. The female was pronounced deceased by Medics a short time after arrival.
It is unknown at this time how the female became deceased. There were no obvious signs of a crime or a vehicle accident. All death investigations are investigated as a crime, until proven otherwise. The Coroner made the scene and helped process the body.
The Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the decedent, along with the cause and manner of death; pending next of kin notification and an autopsy. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Coroner’s Office.
