FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Fire Department officials say that a family of five was able to escape an overnight house fire in a neighborhood off Butler Road.
Crews were sent to 3020 Peppertree Trail just after 3:15 a.m. to find smoke coming from the front of a single-story home.
One adult and four kids were able to escape the home after flames broke out in the kitchen while someone was cooking.
There were no injuries reported. The Red Cross is now helping the family.
FWFD officials released the following:
FWFD was dispatched on a residence fire. When fire crews arrived they found a single story residence with smoke coming from the front of the house. Occupants of the home were out front. Upon entering the structure, a working fire was found in the kitchen area. Fire was quickly extinguished. Fire crews did a rapid check of structure with nothing additional found. The cause of the fire was deemed to be an accidental cooking fire. Red Cross is helping the occupants. FWFD was assisted by AEP, NIPSCO, Neighborhood Code and TRAA as well as FWPD.
