FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department says two adults and one child were not hurt when a fire broke out in their Wabash Avenue home.
Crews were called around 2:21 a.m. on Wednesday to 1144 Wabash Avenue on reports of a possible structure fire.
The residents said that they smelled smoke and evacuated. Crews found the fire to be in the roof and the second floor and extinguished the flames. They were able to gain control in less than a half hour.
No one was hurt and officials say that two dogs were also taken outside prior to crews arriving.
The structure suffered moderate smoke, water, and fire damage.
The official cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Fort Wayne Fire Department officials released the following:
FWFD was dispatched on a possible structure fire. Upon arrival units found light smoke coming from a small 2 story structure with a single story attached to the back of the residence. Occupants stated they smelled smoke and 2 adults and 1 child evacuated prior to fire department arrival. Fire crews encountered heavier smoke in the upstairs upon entering, The fire was found to be in the roof of the single story that opened up into the second floor and was rapidly extinguished. 2 dogs were escorted out of house by fire crews to homeowner. FWFD was assisted by Neighborhood code, AEP,NIPSCO,TRAA and FWPD. Cause is under investigation.
