FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department says that one person made it out of a house fire on Wednesday.
Officials say the occupant was inside when the flames broke out and they were able to make it out of the south side home uninjured.
Crews arrived just after 5:30 p.m. and found smoke and fire coming from the second floor and attic area of the home at 4206 Hoagland Avenue. Firefighters quickly gained control of the blaze in about ten minutes.
The home suffered moderate smoke, water, and fire damage.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Officials say that it isn’t known if there was a working smoke detector in the home. The FWFD reminds that if you do not have a smoke detector or a detector that does not work, you can get one through the department by calling 311.
FWFD officials released the following:
Firefighters responded to a reported house fire at 4206 Hoagland Avenue. First arriving units found smoke and fire showing from the second floor and attic area. Firefighters entered the home and worked to extinguish the fire. The occupant, who was home at the time of the fire, was able to evacuate the structure without injury. The blaze was controlled in approximately 10 minutes. Firefighters were assisted by FWPD, AEP, NIPSCO, TRAA. It is unknown if there was a working smoke detector in the home. Residents who do not have a smoke detector, or a detector that does not work, are encouraged to contact the FWFD by calling 311 to receive working smoke detectors. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
