FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a crash that began when officers tried to stop a motorcycle early Saturday morning.
Just after midnight, police tried to initiate the stop near State and Wells however, the driver took off.
He eventually crashed near Northside Drive and Glazier Avenue.
The crash and pursuit remain under investigation.
The Fort Wayne Police Department released the following:
n July 15th, 2023 (Saturday) at roughly 12:12 am, a Fort Wayne Police Department officer attempted a traffic stop of a motorcycle in the area of State Blvd. and Wells St. for running a red light. The motorcyclist refused to stop and a short pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, the adult male driver of the motorcycle lost control and crashed in the area of Northside Dr. and Glazier Ave. The driver was not wearing a helmet. The driver was rendered aid at the scene by officers, until medics arrived and took over care. The driver was transported to a local hospital in life threatening condition.
The Fatal Accident Crash Team was paged to the scene to take over the investigation. Northside Dr. is currently closed, while the scene is being processed from Kenwood Ave. to Vance Ave. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team and the Allen County Prosecutors Office.
