UPDATE (August 16, 2023):
Indiana State Police say that a 21-year-old Detroit man has been arrested in connection to a shooting on Monday.
ISP says Kerry Jamar Hawkins was arrested Tuesday. He was charged with one count of attempted murder, a Level 1 felony, in connection to the shooting of a teenager in Garrett.
Hawkins is currently being held in the DeKalb County Jail on a $200,000 cash bond.
Indiana State Police released the following:
Detectives with the Indiana State Police have made an arrest associated with yesterday’s shooting investigation at the North Pointe Crossing Mobile Home Park in Garrett, IN.
The person of interest that was taken into custody yesterday, Kerry Jamar Hawkins, 21, of Detroit, Michigan, has now been arrested for his alleged role in the shooting and formally charged with one count of Attempted Murder.
Hawkins is currently being held in the DeKalb County Jail in lieu of a $200,000.00 cash bond.
There is no further information to release at this time.
The Indiana State Police detectives have been assisted by the Garrett Police Department, Auburn Police Department, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, ISP Crime Scene Investigators, and scuba divers from both the ISP and Fort Wayne Fire Department.

DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana State Police say that a teenager was hurt in s shooting at a Garrett mobile home park just before noon yesterday.
ISP says officers are assisting the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department in the shooting investigation which began in North Pointe Crossing off East Edgewater Drive North. Officers were called shortly before noon on Monday.
They arrived to find a 16-year-old male victim. He is currently listed as stable.
ISP says a person of interest is currently in custody.

The Indiana State Police Ft. Wayne Post has been requested to investigate a shooting that occurred earlier today in Garrett, IN.
At approximately 11:45 a.m. on August 14, 2023, officers with the Garrett Police Department and deputies with the DeKalb County Sherriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting that occurred on East Edgewater Drive North in the North Pointe Crossing Mobile Home Park in Garrett, IN. Officers arrived and located a16-year-old male victim that was then transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center. The male victim is reported to be in stable condition.
The Indiana State Police was requested to conduct the investigation and process the scene. A person of interest is currently in custody.
This is an ongoing investigation and there is no other information to release currently.
