UPDATE (November 22, 2023):
The officers involved in a shooting just west of downtown Fort Wayne last month have now been identified by the FWPD. Kevin Smith, 46, is accused of shooting at police, businesses, and cars on the night of October 30. He was asked to leave a bar and then allegedly began firing a gun outside. Police said he ran from them when they arrived and fired in their direction.
Two officers who then opened fire have been identified by FWPD as Wyatt Short and Evan Myers.
On Nov. 14, Smith was charged with three counts of criminal recklessness, unlawful possession of a handgun and resisting law enforcement by fleeing on foot.
His current condition has not been released.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – One man is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being shot by a Fort Wayne police officer Monday night.
It happened just after 9 p.m. when police got a call about a man who fired several shots at buildings and cars after being removed from a bar downtown.
The officer fired at the man on the 1800 block of West Main Street after finding he was still shooting the gun when police arrived. The suspect’s name has been released.
The FWPD released the following;
On Monday October 30th 2023 at approximately 2105 hours, Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department were dispatched to the 1800 Block of W Main regarding an armed person. Several individuals called 911 regarding an adult male who was removed from an area bar, now firing a handgun in the street. The individual was said to be shooting into several buildings, homes and vacant business along West Main Street.
Officers arrived on scene to the individual still discharging his firearm. Actions taken by the suspect resulted in officers discharging their service weapon. In the resulting exchange the suspect was struck. Officers detained the male and began rendering aide until Medics arrived. The suspect was transported to a local area hospital in Nonlife-threatening condition, but later downgraded to life-threatening condition.
No officers or other individuals were injured during the incident.
This incident remains under investigation with the Fort Waye Police Department, Allen County Prosecutor’s office, and Indiana State Police.
