ELKHART CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – An Elkhart County Sheriff’s deputy is recovering after being injured in a crash early yesterday morning. Indiana State Police are investigating the crash and say an 18-year-old man hit the deputy’s cruiser around 1 a.m. on State Road 15 near County Road 146. The deputy was treated and released from Goshen Hospital. The teen is hospitalized at Goshen Hospital and will be taken to the county jail once he recovers.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash and Indiana State Police say that toxicology results are pending for the driver.

The Indiana State Police has been requested to investigate a crash after a Patrolman with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office was hit head-on after another driver crossed the centerline early this morning.
Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Mick Dockery indicates that at on January 21, 2024, at approximately 1:00 a.m. Patrolman Richard Jasinski was traveling southbound on SR 15 near CR 146 in his marked 2020 Dodge Durango. Just south of the intersection, a silver 2012 Chevrolet Impala traveling northbound is alleged to have crossed the centerline, crashing into Jasinski head-on. Jasinski was transported to Goshen Hospital where he was treated and released. The driver of the Chevrolet, an 18-year-old male, had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was transported and admitted to Elkhart General Hospital with injuries that are serious but not believed to be life-threatening.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash. Toxicology results are pending for the driver of the Chevrolet.
Members from the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. At the conclusion of the investigation the report will be given to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
