FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says officers arrested a man Saturday after he led them on a pursuit and eventually tried to get away on foot.
Around 5:30 a.m., officers tried to stop a vehicle at Meyer Road and State Road 930.
Police said the car refused to stop and officers gave chase. According to police, the driver got out during the pursuit and tried to run away but was later arrested near the 1300 block of Estella Avenue.
Billy Bennett Jr., 35, had a warrant for failure to appear on a charge of possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. The FWPD says he is now preliminarily charged with armed robbery, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, and resisting law enforcement on foot.

On Feb. 3, 2024 at approximately 5:30 am FWPD officers attempted a traffic stop of a white Chevy Cobalt at Meyer Rd. and SR 930. The vehicle refused to stop leading officers on a pursuit. During the course of the pursuit the suspect bailed from the vehicle and fled on foot. The suspect was arrested a short time later in the area of 1300 Estella Ave without incident. The suspect, Billy Bennet Jr. is wanted in connection to multiple robberies. We would like to thank FWPD operations officers and Detectives for their efforts in this arrest.
