FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A man was placed into custody and transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation after a standoff with police at a home on the northeast side of the city Wednesday.
Officers were responding to a 911 call from someone who said the man was talking about burning down his own Forest Avenue house and they were familiar with the man.
Police went to the home just before 10 a.m. and he refused to step outside for several hours. He was taken into custody around 2 p.m.

Details: On Wednesday February 21 st 2024 just at approximately 0950 am officers were dispatched to a home in the 5300 block of Forest Ave for a suicidal person. A concerned 3rd party contacted 911 regarding an individual who made statements alluding thathe would burn his home down. This same person has previously made threats to assault officers on previous incidents. When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with a male adult who refused to exit the home. Due to the nature of the threats being made and previous involvements with the male threatening law enforcement , the Fort Wayne Police Department Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team were dispatched. Forest Ave between Reed Rd and Berkley will remain closed untl the incident is resolved.
The subject eventually exited the residence and was placed into custody, without further incident and transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
