FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) says that one person was arrested after apparently stealing a Parkview Police vehicle Friday evening and leading officers on a chase.
The FWPD says it received reports of a stolen marked Parkview Police SUV and when officers were able to locate the vehicle it took off. That sparked a high-speed chase that ended with officers using tear gas to get the suspect to leave the vehicle.
The FWPD released the following:
FWPD received a report of a stolen marked Parkview Police SUV. FWPD officers located the vehicle shortly afterward and attempted a traffic stop. The stolen police vehicle did not stop and officers engaged in a high-speed pursuit with the vehicle. At no time were the emergency lights or siren activated on the stolen police vehicle.
FWPD officers were able to use a tire deflation device on the vehicle, which was successful in deflating several tires. The stolen vehicle entered I469 northbound and eventually came to a stop. The driver did not follow the officers orders to exit the vehicle. Tactical officers were able to enter tear gas into the vehicle, which the suspect then later exited and was arrested unharmed.
