Indiana House panel okays trans sports legislation

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana lawmakers are a step closer to deciding if trans athletes can play on girls’ teams in the state.

A House committee yesterday voted to push the plan, which would ban anyone born a male from competing on a girls team in K-12 schools, to the full Indiana House.

Advocates say trans athletes need to be seen and deserve a place to play. Supporters of the ban say the idea is to protect girls’ sports for girls.

Lawmakers stripped out a piece of the plan that would have extended the trans ban to colleges and universities as well.
